Why You Should Take Your Dog Snowshoeing

At Snowshoe Tahoe, we love our dogs. We’re definitely the type to bring them wherever we can; that’s why all our amazing snowshoe tours are dog-friendly. Taking your dog snowshoeing is great for their overall well-being. It provides excellent mental stimulation, exposing them to new sights, smells, and challenges! As pet lovers, we all know how important the relationship between you and your dog is, and doing unique activities together is a great way to strengthen that bond. Dogs and humans alike benefit from the exercise and fresh air snowshoeing in Tahoe provides, plus it's a great low-impact activity that is easy on the joints. On a guided snowshoe tour, you can enjoy a leisurely pace with plenty of time for sightseeing, water breaks, and of course, treats!

Can Your Dog Go Snowshoeing in Tahoe?

If you’re planning on bringing your dog snowshoeing in Tahoe, there are some things to keep in mind. We recommend that your dog be at least 30 pounds to safely navigate the snowy terrain. Booties are a great option if your dog is used to wearing them. Dogs should be able to walk comfortably for 2 to 3 hours, depending on the length of the tour you choose. We do not recommend bringing along senior dogs or dogs with breathing difficulties, joint pain, or mobility issues. If you’re unsure about your dog’s ability to handle the snow, we suggest taking them on a shorter walk in the Tahoe conditions and assessing their comfort level the day before your tour.
